Abstract
An example system includes a database having a plurality of data structures, each of the plurality of data structures associated with a different business rule and one or more provider identifications, and a processor configured to receive one or more consumer identifications and one of the one or more provider identifications, search the plurality of data structures for one or more data structures associated with the one of the one or more provider identifications to identify authorized data structures, in the authorized data structures, determine entitlements associated with the one or more consumer identifications to identify consumer entitlements, generate a list of the consumer entitlements, and transmit the list of the consumer entitlements in response to the receiving.
Background
BACKGROUND
When a consumer purchases a digital video disc (DVD) from a retailer, the consumer is assured that the DVD is able to play on any DVD player. However, that is not the case with current digital products that are protected with digital rights management (DRM) algorithms or some other type of security and playback control. For example, in today's digital world, if a user purchases Movie A from Retailer 1 and would like to watch it on Retailer 2's system, the user will be required to re-purchase Movie A from Retailer 2. As such, there is a fundamental lack of interoperability between digital retail stores. SUMMARY
The present disclosure is directed to methods and systems for determining consumer entitlements for playback interoperability, substantially as shown in and/or described in connection with at least one of the figures, as set forth more completely in the claims.
Claims
22. A system linking a first provider, a second provider and a third provider for identifying entitlements of a consumer providing a playback interoperability between the first provider, the second provider and the third provider, the system comprising: a processor; and a memory storing a plurality of data structures each associated with a single title owner, wherein the plurality of data structures include: a first data structure associated with a first title owner, a first provider identification of the first provider, and a second provider identification of the second provider; a second data structure associated with a second title owner, the first provider identification, and a third provider identification of the third provider; and a third data structure associated with the first title owner, the second provider identification, and the third provider identification, and not associated with the first provider identification; the processor configured to: receive, from the first provider, a query for a list of the entitlements of the consumer, the query including a consumer identification and the first provider identification; search, in response to receiving the query including the first provider identification, the plurality of data structures to determine data structures associated with the first provider identification; determine, based on the searching, that the fist provider is authorized to obtain information from the first data structure and the second data structure based on determining that the first provider identification is associated with the first data structure and the second data structure, and the first provider is not authorized to obtain the information from the third data structure based on determining that the first provider identification is not associated with the third data structure; identify, only in the data structures determined to be associated with the first provider identification including the first data structure and the second data structure, one or more entitlements associated with the consumer identification to generate the list of the entitlements of the consumer; and transmit, to the first provider, the list of the entitlements including a first entitlement for playback by the consumer wherein: the first entitlement is owned by the first title owner and originally provided by the second provider, or the first entitlement is owned by the second title owner and originally provided by the third provider. ||
31. A method for use by a system to link a first provider, a second provider and a third provider for identifying entitlements of a consumer providing a playback interoperability between the first provider, the second provider and the third provider, the system including a memory storing a plurality of data structures each associated with a single title owner, wherein the plurality of data structures include: (i) a first data structure associated with a first title owner, a first provider identification of the first provider, and a second provider identification of the second provider, (ii) a second data structure associated with a second title owner, the first provider identification, and a third provider identification of the third provider, and (iii) a third data structure associated with the first title owner, the second provider identification, and the third provider identification, and not associated with the first provider identification, the method comprising: receiving, from the first provider, a query for a list of the entitlements of the consumer, the query including a consumer identification and the first provider identification; searching, in response to receiving the query including the first provider identification, the plurality of data structures to determine data structures associated with the first provider identification; determining, based on the searching, that the fist provider is authorized to obtain information from the first data structure and the second data structure based on determining that the first provider identification is associated with the first data structure and the second data structure, and the first provider is not authorized to obtain the information from the third data structure based on determining that the first provider identification is not associated with the third data structure; identifying, only in the data structures determined to be associated with the first provider identification including the first data structure and the second data structure, one or more entitlements associated with the consumer identification to generate the list of the entitlements of the consumer; and transmitting, to the first provider, the list of the entitlements including a first entitlement for playback by the consumer wherein: the first entitlement is owned by the first title owner and originally provided by the second provider, or the first entitlement is owned by the second title owner and originally provided by the third provider.
