The keeper's note

Algebraic multigrid method for cloth simulation.

Abstract

A method and system for simulation of deformation of a thin-shelled member are disclosed herein. The method includes: receiving at one or more computer systems, information identifying a computer-generated object. The computer-generated object can be a thin-shelled member. The method includes: receiving information identifying a discretization of the computer-generated object, which discretization can be a plurality of nodes; receiving information identifying a set of material properties for the computer-generated object; pre-filtering nodes from the discretization based on predicted collisions; generating a preconditioner via a preconditioning algorithm; and iteratively solving for nodes at a plurality of time points via a conjugate gradient method.

Background

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION(1) Multigrid methods are well-known and potentially promise to deliver a solution to a wide variety of discrete equations in a compute time proportional to the number of unknowns. However, new multigrid methods and improvements are desired.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION(2) One aspect of the present disclosure relates to an algebraic multigrid method for simulation of deformation of a cloth member. The method includes: receiving at one or more computer systems, information identifying a computer-generated object, which computer-generated object can be a thin-shelled member; receiving information identifying a discretization of the computer-generated object, which discretization can include a plurality of nodes; receiving information identifying a set of material properties for the computer-generated object; applying constraints to the discretization; and solving for nodes of the constrained discretization, which constrained discretization has the same structure as the unconstrained discretization.(3) One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a method for simulation of deformation of a cloth member. The method includes receiving at one or more computer systems, information identifying a computer-generated object, which computer-generated object includes a cloth member; receiving information identifying a discretization of the computer-generated object, which discretization includes a plurality of nodes; receiving information identifying a set o
