Abstract
A method and device generates a fantasy sports recommendation. The method includes receiving a plurality of ranking values associated with a sport player, each of the ranking values being generated from a respective source. The method includes assigning a weight value to each of the ranking values, the weight value being associated with the respective source. The method includes generating a recommendation value for the sport player as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding weight values. The method includes receiving a selection value for the sport player. The method includes determining a further weight value for each of the sources as a function of the selection value, the recommendation value, and the weight value for the corresponding source.
Background
FIELD OF THE INVENTION(1) This present invention pertains to the field of fantasy sports games. The exemplary embodiments relate to a method and system for providing recommendations, in particular for drafting or managing a player in a fantasy sports team by adjusting a weight applied to recommendation algorithms used to generate the recommendations.BACKGROUND INFORMATION(2) A fantasy sports game is a simulation game where users act as managers or owners of simulated sport teams called “fantasy teams,” where each team comprises a number of “players.” Thus, the term “owner” is used to refer to a participant in the fantasy sports game. An owner may be a natural person or a computer-controlled opponent. A “user” is a fantasy owner who is also a natural person. Thus, the term “user” and “owner” are used interchangeably in their roles in the fantasy sports game. In contrast, the term “player” refers to one of the selectable fantasy characters. In certain fantasy sports games, each player corresponds to an athlete in a professional sports league.(3) Features for conventional fantasy sports games are already known in the art. In a first example, a player evaluation system uses historical data to predict player performance through the end of the season using a blending function. 1. A method for a fantasy sport application, comprising: by a processor device: establishing connections to a plurality of user devices, each user device associated with one of a plurality of fantasy sports teams; hosting a timed fantasy sports draft for a fantasy sports league, wherein the fantasy sports league comprises the plurality of fantasy sports teams; receiving a plurality of sets of ranking values associated with sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft, each of the plurality of sets of ranking values associated with a different one of a plurality of sources; assigning a weight value to each of the plurality of sets of ranking values, the weight value being associated with the source that generated the ranking value; automatically generating, in under one second of elapsed time, recommendation values for the sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding weight values; automatically providing, in under one second of elapsed time, a recommendation of one or more of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user devices associated with the fantasy sports teams based on the automatically generated recommendation values for the sports players available for selection; receiving, during the execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, a first selection from one of the plurality of user devices, the first selection being for one of the sport players available for selection; automatically determining, during the execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, in under one second of elapsed time, a further weight value for each of the sources as a function of the selection, the recommendation value, and the weight value for the corresponding source; automatically generating, in under one second of elapsed time, further recommendation values for the sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding further weight values; and automatically providing a recommendation of a further one or more of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user device prior to receiving a second selection from each of the respective user devices.

A device, comprising: a communication arrangement configured to communicate with a plurality of user devices via a communication network; a memory arrangement; and a processor for a fantasy sports application, wherein the processor hosts a timed fantasy sports draft for a fantasy sports league wherein the fantasy sports league comprises a plurality of fantasy sports teams, each of the plurality of fantasy sports teams associated with respective one of the plurality of user devices; wherein the processor receives a first plurality of sets of ranking values associated with sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft, each of the plurality of ranking values associated with a different one of a plurality of sources; wherein the processor assigns a weight value to each of the plurality of sets of ranking values, the weight value being associated with the source that generated the ranking value; wherein the processor generates a recommendation value for the sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding weight values; wherein the processor provides, in under one second of elapsed time, a recommendation of one or more of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user devices associated with the fantasy sports team, based on the recommendation values for the sports players available for selection; wherein the processor receives, during the execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, a first selection from one of the plurality of user devices, the first selection being for one of the sports players available for selection; wherein the processor determines, during execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, in under one second of elapsed time, a further weight value for each of the sources as a function of the selection, the recommendation value, and the weight value for the corresponding source; wherein the processor generates, in under one second of elapsed time, further recommendation values for the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding further weight values; and wherein the processor provides a recommendation of a further one of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user devices prior to receiving a second selection from each of the respective users.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium including a set of instructions executable by a processor, wherein when executed the set of instructions cause the processor to perform operations, comprising: establishing connections to a plurality of user devices, each of the user device associated with one of a plurality of fantasy sports teams; hosting a timed fantasy sports draft for a fantasy sports league, wherein the fantasy sports league comprises the plurality of fantasy sports teams; receiving a plurality of sets of ranking values associated with sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft, each of the plurality of sets of ranking values associated with a different one of a plurality of sources; assigning a weight value to each of the plurality of sets of ranking values, the weight value being associated with the source that generated the ranking value; generating, in under one second of elapsed time, recommendation values for the sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding weight values; providing, in under one second of elapsed time, a recommendation of one or more of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user devices associated with the fantasy sports teams, based on the recommendation values for the sports players available for selection; receiving, during execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, a first selection from one of the plurality of user devices, the first selection being for one of sport players available for selection; determining, during execution of the timed fantasy sports draft, in under one second of elapsed time, a further weight value for each of the sources as a function of the selection, the recommendation value, and the weight value for the corresponding source generating, in under one second of elapsed time, further recommendation values for the sport players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft as a function of the ranking values and the corresponding further weight values; and providing a recommendation of a further one or more of the sports players available for selection in the fantasy sports draft to each of the plurality of user devices prior to receiving a second selection from each of the respective user devices.
