Abstract

The present application discloses computing platforms and methods for performing location-based restriction of content transmission. In one implementation, such a computing platform includes a hardware processor and a memory storing a content protection software code. The hardware processor is configured to execute the content protection software code to obtain a media content including a cue for restricting broadcast of the media content, and to detect the cue in the media content. The hardware processor is further configured to execute the content protection software code to interpret the cue to identify a usage rule constraining the broadcast of the media content, and to restrict the broadcast of the media content based on the usage rule.

Background

BACKGROUND (1) In-person attendance at a live performance, movie premier, or invitation only event, for example, can be an exciting and enjoyable experience for attendees. That experience may be rendered even more special because attendees know that they are part of an exclusive audience privileged to share the experience in the moment. However, the ubiquity of personal communication devices and the ease with which audio and video can be recorded and transmitted using those devices has enabled real-time streaming of live performances and other content intended to be available exclusively to a limited audience. Unfortunately, such unrestrained distribution of content intended for a limited audience can diminish the value of that content to its intended audience, the artists presenting the content, and the owners of the content. SUMMARY (2) There are provided computing platforms and methods for performing location-based restriction of content transmission, substantially as shown in and/or described in connection with at least one of the figures, and as set forth more completely in the claims.

Claims

1. A computing platform comprising: a hardware processor, a camera and a memory storing a content protection software code; wherein the hardware processor is configured to execute the content protection software code to: capture, using the camera, a video of a performance in a venue; detect, while capturing the video of the performance, a cue generated in the venue by a cue source other than the performance for restricting a broadcast of the video of the performance; interpret the cue to identify a usage rule restricting the broadcast of the video of the performance; and restrict the broadcast of the video of the performance based on the usage rule. || 12. A method for use by a computing platform including a hardware processor, a camera and a memory storing a content protection software code, the method comprising: capturing, using the camera, a video of a performance in a venue; detecting, by the content protection software code executed by the hardware processor, while capturing the video of the performance, a cue generated in the venue by a cue source other than the performance for restricting a broadcast of the video of the performance; interpreting, by the content protection software code executed by the hardware processor, the cue to identify a usage rule restricting the broadcast of the video of the performance; and restricting, by the content protection software code executed by the hardware processor, the broadcast of the video of the performance based on the usage rule.
