Controls a robotic/animatronic apparatus via a motor controller to animate it and time its pose to produce desirable results when a photo is captured.

Abstract

A method for controlling a robotic apparatus to produce desirable photographic results. The method includes, with a motor controller, first operating a robotics assembly to animate the robotic apparatus and, then, detecting an upcoming image capture. The method further includes, with the motor controller in response to the detecting of the upcoming image capture, second operating the robotics assembly to pose the robotic apparatus for the upcoming image capture. In some embodiments, the detecting includes a sensor mounted on the robotic apparatus sensing a pre-flash of light from a red-eye effect reduction mechanism of a camera. In other cases, the detecting includes a sensor mounted on the robotics apparatus sensing a range finder signal from a range finder of acamera. The posing may include opening eyes, moving a mouth into a smile, or otherwise striking a pose that is held temporarily to facilitate image capture with a camera.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a robotic apparatus, comprising: with a motor controller, first operating a robotics assembly to animate the robotic apparatus; detecting an upcomingimage capture of the robotic apparatus by a camera; and with the motor controller in response to the detecting of the upcoming image capture, second operating the robotics assembly to pose the robotic apparatus for the upcoming image capture. 11. A robot, comprising: arobotics assembly; a motor controller controlling operations of the robotics assembly; a camera operations detector operating to detect camera operations indicating a camera operating within a time period to capture an image of the robot and to output, in response, a signal; and a microcontroller running a photography enhancement module to process the signal and, in response, to operate the motor controller to execute a photograph animation to place the robot in a pose during the time period. 16. A control system for a display device, comprising: a detector transmitting a signal in response to detecting an upcoming image capture by a camera; memory storing a photo animation script for posing the display devicefor an image capture; and a microcontroller, in response to receiving the signal from thedetector, sending the photo animation script to the display device for implementing the photo animation script by posing the display device for the upcoming image capture by the camera.
